29-1-16 TENNIS AUSSIE OPEN SEMI FINAL

BAD RANOIC GROIN HELP MURRAY TO AUSSIE OPEN FINAL

Brit Andy Murray beat Canadian Milios Ranoic in 5 sets. The first set was a hard one won 6-4 by Ranoic. The second was won 7-5 By Murray but there were time in that set you thought that Murray had lost the3 match. A hard fought tie break in the third gave Ranoic the advantage.

Somewhere in the fourth set Murray spotted that Ranoic had back or Groin problems so he set out to attack that area. He won the fourth by 6 games to 4 and early on in the match again times when you thought Ranoic was going to power serve his way to the final. In the fifth we saw a different match and one where Murray controlled what was happening especially early on and at one stage winning by 4 games to 0 but he did attac Ranoic by his weakness and was able to win by 6 games to 2.

28-1-16 TENNIS DJOVIC AND JAMIE MURRAY

MENS SINGLES

Novac Djokovic from Serbia defeated Swiss legend Roger Federer in 4 sets and in the first 2 sets it seemed like he was cruising and being able to break at ease winning 6-1 and 6-2. But Federer came back in the third and won with a break that no one saw coming and it seemed like Federer had the momentum. Djockovic broke then in the 7th game to secure a 6-3 win the match and Join Federer and Nadal as players who have played in 5 consecutive finals.

MENS DOUBLES

Brit Jamie Murray has shown his experience to reach a men’s doubles final along with Soares from Brazil after they defeated French Double act Mannarino and L Pouille 6-3, 6-1
MIXED DOUBLES

Brit Murray did beat Soares in the doubles Murray was partnered with K Srebotnik and with Vesnin. Murray and Srebotnik won the first set 6-2 and the second 6-3. Could Jamie outshine and who knows

28-1-16 WOMENS TENNIS AUSSIE OPEN BOTH SEMIS

WOMENS SEMIS

American and legend of the game Serena Williams defeated Anna Radwanska from Poland in 2 sets. The first set she cruised to as the Pole could not pick up a game. The second was a lot more competitive as she had to work for the only break of the match winning by 6 games to 4. Serena does look on fire in this tournament.

Brittish hero goes home as Joanna Konta lost in 2 sets to German Angelique Kerber but this match was lost in the first set as Konta showed that she could fight losing the set by 7 games to 5. In the second game it seemed like Konta was done losing by 6 games to 2. But her name will be remembered forever with this Australian open.

27-1-16 MENS QUARTERS

MENS QUARTERS

Brit Andy Murray showed us that he has the potential to win with these 3 sets to 1 win over Spaniard David Ferrer. Murray won with a break in the first set but lost the second on a tie break. Murray cruised to a 2 break win in the third and here he showed most of his potential. While in the fourth Ferrer came back and bone break was enough to win.

Canadian Milos Ranoc beat Frenchman Gael Monfils by 3 sets to 1 but this was a match where if you got one break you won the set. The first set went to Ranoic with a very early break in the first game. The second was won by Monfils in a similar way. The third set seemed to be a bit nervy but Ranoic got the break when needed. In the fourth and final set we got a set when we did think either player would break. But Ranoic did break in the fifth game and Monfils did have his chances to break back near to the end of the match but could not take them.
I both want and think Andy Murray will reach the final beating Ranoic but think he could lose a set somewhere. The other match in my opinion is quite interesting and is more about Federer than Djockovic. If Federer is truly hot I think he can win and I would want that purely for tennis as he is so close to the most wins but will probably do it at the French.  If Federrer is not on fire however I think that Djockovic will win comfortably

WOMENS

Angelique Kerber from Germany found it easy enough in the first set against Bulgerian Victoria Azerenka winning it by 6 games to 3 the second set was a lot tougher as Kerber was able to play out of her skin to win by 7 games to 5.

Without a doubt the story of the tournament was whoever won this match between Brit Joanna Konta and Zhang from China. Konta won a tough first set 6-4 but the second was a lot easier as Zhang only had one game to her name.

I think that we will have Serena Williams playing Kerber  in the woman’s final . I want Konta to be in the final pla\ying Serena what a story that would be.

MENS TENNIS

Swiss player Roger Federrer showed why he is a legend after defeating Chech player Tomas Berdych in straight sets. The first was too close for Federrers liking as it went to a tie break. But Federrer showed why he was a legend in the second winning by 6 games to 2 in the third Berdych got back into the set and began to show his class again losing by 6 games to 4. Berdych must wonder what could have happened if he won the tie break.

Novac Djockovic from Serbia beat Kei Nishikori from Japan by 3 sets to 0 in the first Djockovic set out his stall but it wasn’t until the second when 2 breaks and we saw the full force of what Djockovic could do. Nishikori did break Djockovic in the third but the Serb had the power to break back and take a second break to win the tie. It looks like Djockovic will be a force in the semi-finals.

WOMENS RESULTS AND PREDICTIONS 25-1-16

WOMENS TENNIS

SUNDAY

Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro from Spain needed time to waken up in this match against Home favourite Gavrilova as she lost the first set 6-0 then there was a competitive set before won by Suarez Navaro 6-3but then Gavrilova needed to waken up in the third loosing 6-2 as it was so important to win.

Anna Radwanska from Poland went down in the first set to unseeded Friedsam from Germany in a tie break. Radwanska took complete control of the second set before winning a competive third and go into the quarters.

Maria Sharapova from Russia won 2 tight sets against Bencic from swizerland to reach the quarter finals of the tournament.

Serena Williams cruised into the quarters with a 6-1 , 6-2 won over unseeded Gasparyan vfrom Russia

MONDAY

Unseeded brit Joanna Konta won an epic earlier today against Makarova from Russia. Both players had a competitive set under their belt winning 6-4 but the final set was won 8-6 by Konta and she has definitely made a name for herself now in the competition

Victoria Azerenka showed her class in the first set against Strycova from Czech Republic but not so much in the second as she was not able to control it but still got the win.

Angelique Kerber from Germany showed her class in the second set against unseeded Beck also from Germany you would wonder if Beck was that little bit star struck as she went to play someone she wants to be

QUARTER FINALS MY PREDICTIONS

William to beat Sharapova in 3 sets. I want Sharapova to win

Radvanska to beat Suarez navaro in 2 sets. Not really fussed

Azerenka to beat kerber in 3 sets. I want this to go to three sets and still not be sure

Keys to beat Konta in 3. My 2 favourite players still in the draw so hard to judge between them. Whoever wins I want to win the tournament. I would rather see Keys win Britain has Murray.

LAST 16 MATCHES MENS
SUNDAY

Czech player Tomas Berdych needed 5 sets to defeat Spaniard Bautista-Agut . The first set won by Bautista-Agut 6-4 followed by another tight set won 6-4 by Berdych. Berdych then won the third set 6-3 before the only set won where you could say a player was in control as Bautista-Agut won 6-1. The final set was won in a close set where Berdych took control to win 6-3.

Roger Federer the Swiss legend cruised to a 3 sets to 0 win over David Goffin of Belgium late in the night. There wasn’t a sign of Goffin until the third set where he showed that he was there but Federer was still too strong as he won 6-4.

Japanese player Kei Nishikori showed that he had the class to beat Frenchman Jo Wilfred Tsonga in straight sets. In the Seccond Nishikori showed that he was on a different level but in first and third he showed that he could win hard sets.

Serb Novac Djockovic showed why he would be considered the best tennis player in the world with an epic win over Giles Simon from France. Djockovic won the first 6-3 and then lost the second in a tie break. The third was won by Djockovic but Simon came back to win the fourth. The fifth was a close one also and this is the type of match that would help Djockovic going forward.

MONDAY

Andy Murray cruised to a 3-0 win over Frenchman Bernard Tomic all 3 sets were compeditive but Murray had to win the match in a tie break.

Spaniard David Ferrer cruised to a 3-0 win over American John Isner all 3 sets were competitive as Ferrer won the first 2 sets 6-4 and the third set 7-5

Milos Ranoc from Canadea needed 5 sets to defeat Stan Wavwenka from Switzerland. The first 2 sets went with Ranoc before Wavwenka came back in the third and fouyth which were both close sets. The fifth was won confortably enough by Ranoc

Gail Monfils defeated the only unseeded player left in the draw Kuznetsov from Russia the first 2 sets were shared before Monfils won 2 competitive sets the match won on a tie break.

QUARTER FINAL MY PREDICTIONS

I think Djockovic will beat Nishikori but drop a set. I would love to see Nishikori win

Federer will beat Berdych in 5 sets. I want Federrer to win

Murray to beat Ferrer in 4. I want Murray to win

Ranos to beat Monfils in 4 but I am not confident on it. I would love Monfils to win as he is such a low seed

WOMES AUSSIE OPEN 22-1-16

WOMENS

Serena Williams from the USA had no problem dismissing Kasatkina from Russia as the Russian was not in the match at all

Bencic from Switzerland needed 3 sets to defeat Bondarenko from the Ukraine and going forward results like this can help her to get her name out there

Russian Maria Sharapova  was involved in a very stange game with Davis from the USA as it did take her 3 sets to win it but the 2 sets she did win she took complete control of so much so Davis had no hope.

Anna Radwanska from Poland crushed Puig in the first set but Puig did make the second that little bit competitive

Italian Roberta Vinci needed to waken up in the first set as it seemed like she was asleep but when she did she played well against Friedsam from Germany winning by 2 sets to 1

Home favourite and unseeded Gavrilova beat Mladenovic from France in an epic of a match both sets were won 6-4 the first by Gavrilov and the second by Mladenovic but what made the match interesting for me was the third set as it was won 11-9 by the Aussie Gavrilova

TENNIS MENS SINGLES

Novac Djockovic from Serbia had a few problems dismissing Seppi of Italy especially in the second and third set. Djockovic showed his quality in the third set to win a tie breaker and begin at least at this stage why he is the best in the world.

Frenchman Giles Simon breezed into the fourth round with a simple enough three set win against Del Bonis from Argentina.

Frenchman Jo Wilfred Tsonga found it very difficult to put Herbert from france away in 3 straght sets as the second and third were won on tie breaks the first was won 6-4 maybe Jo has to get some practice for the big guns

Japanese player Kei Nishikori needed 4 sets to defeat Garcia Lopez from Spain Nishikori did not play as well as he could in the first 2 sets losing the second but he did up the gears in the third and fourth to win 3-1.

The Swiss legend that is Federrer needed four sets to defeat Dimitrov from Bulgaria. The only set that he controlled was the third but that was after losing the second.

Bautista-Agut from Spain pulled off the shock of the day after defeating Marion Cilic from Croatia in straight sets. All 3 sets were close but it did take a tie break in the second to separate them.

One of the favourites for the crown Muguruza from Spain showed why with a simple and effective straight sets win over Flipkens from Belgium

One of my favourites Madison Keys from the US needed 3 sets to defeat Shvedova from Kazakhstan I would love to see someone young like Keys do well in this competition.

Anna Ivanovic from Serbia won in straight sets against Sevastova don’t let her ranking fool you she could go far.

Elana Svitolina from the Ukraine had a bit of a battle with Osaka from Japan but won in straight sets

Another seed bites the dust as Beck from Germany beat the no 11 seed Bacsinszky from Switzerland in straight sets

Savine Lasiki also gone after defeat to Allertova from the Czech Republic in 3 sets

The happy British news story of the day after beating Venus in the first round Brit Joanna Conta beats Zheng of China in straight sets. I wonder how far she can go?

Swiss player Stan Wavwenka had a few problems in dismissing Spepanek but to the Czechs advantage he did get better and better each set
American Isner had some real problems in dismissing Granollers-Pujol as again he took 3 sets but the second and third both went to tie breaks which to me at least means they could have went either way.
Andy Murray had a problem in the second set against Groth from Australia but except for that it looks like full steam ahead.
Milos Ranoc from Canada  had a bit of a battle in getting past Tommy Robredo of Spain as again 3 sets but he Robredo took him to 2 tie breakers in the first and second sets

Serena Williams from the USA had no problem in dismissing Hsieh from Romania and it was like they were on 2 different planets

Maria Sharapova had no problem in dismissing Sasnovic from Belarus

Anna Radvanska from Poland found it tricky to dismiss Eugenie Bouchard of Canada Bouchards is one of the players that I like and hope does well so I am disappointed

Italian Roberta Vinci had no problem in defeating Fatoni as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win

Spaniard Carla Suarez Navaro needed a third set to defeat Sakkari from Greece after losing the first in a tie break she was able to just take control of the second and third

MENS SINGLES

Frenchman Jo Wilfred Tsonga had no problem in dismissing Jasika from Australia in straight sets. The first set was a hard set to win but in the second the Australian seemed drained. The Ausstrilian did come back in the third and Tsonga only broke once.

Kei Nishikori from Japan had a few problems dismissing Krajicek from the USA as all 3 sets were difficult to win the first and third was won 6-3 but the second did need a tie break. I am not sure of him as a potential champion as he seems to be a bit week in bits.

Roger Federrer the Legend from Switzerland played hard in the first 2 sets before Dolgopolov from the Ukraine broke down in the third.

Nick Kyrgios from Australia had a few problems in getting by Cuevas as he had won 3 close sets and the final won on a tie break.

Tomas Berdych showed that there is potential here to win this competision if he gets his act together like he did in the second set but having hard tennis dcan help alo but

Belgian David Goffin showed both his good and his bad side in this match against Dzumher bad because of the fact he lost a set 6-0 against a qualifier but good as he was able to pick himself up and win the next 2 sets

French favourite Giles Simon gave the crowd what they wanted a five setter against Donskoy as it took him 5 sets to get past this qualifier. I think that Simon has got a lot to look at if he is going to beyond this point

mens tennis aussie open 19-1-16

MENS

In the shock of the round no 5 seed Rafa Nadal from Spain was beaten by 3 sets to 2 by fellow Spaniard     Fernando Verdasco won the first set in a thriller as it went to a tie break and as the second and third went to Nadal we thought this was over but Verdasco came back to win the fourth and cruise into the second with a double break in the fifth.

No 16 seed Aussie Bernard Tomic needed 4 sets to beat Istomin but the set the Uzbekistani did win was a hard one to win as it went to a tie break and maybe that drained him.

Brit no 2 seed Andy Murray did not need to get out of third gear to beat Zerev from Germany winning 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 and maybe the only consolation the German can have is that he did get better through the match. I want Murray to win the Aussie open so he can be one title of a grand slam of grand slams

Canadian no 13 seed Milos Ranoc found it easy also against Pouille from France winning 6-1, 6-4,6-4 will he be one to watch out for going forward in the competition.

American no 10 seed John Isner found a way to simplify things against Pole Janowicz as the first and third were simple but the second he found trickier to get into

One of the men I would like to see do well in the competition no 8 seed David Ferrer from Spain cruised into the second round win by only needing 3 sets to beat Gojowczyk from Germany

Fernando Lopez from Spain and number 30 seed only needed 3 sets to defeat Dan Evens from Great Britain there does not seem to be that much depth in British tennis.
