MENS FINAL US OPEN 09-09114

MENS FINAL
CILIC IS IN COMPLETE DREAMLAND

This is the first time since 05 that neither Federrer, Djockovic nor Nadal have reached the final of a slam. Kei Nishikori seeded 10 from Japan vs Marin Cilic seeded 14 from Croatia. This is the first time that all 8 slams will have different winners in a given year.  Cilic gets the first break of the match to lead by 4 games to 2. Cilic hits a quality serve to lead the set by 5 games to 2, Cilic is showing that he has got an amazing range of shots. There have not been that many rallys in this first set. Cilic had got 3 set points after Nishikori hit a shot long. And Cilic gets the set 6-3 after Nishikori hits the ball into the net. Cilic wins 6-3.

Nishikori got off to a good start at the start of the second set. Nishikori was 40 love down on his own serve but brought it back to 40-40 but it was all for nothing as Cilic broke anyway in that game to lead 2-1.Cilic then saved himself from 2 break points straight away and went on to win with some quality serves. Nishikori showed that he had got a good bit of class in the fifth match as he won a couple of rallies. Cilic comes back with 4 aces to lead 4-2. Cilic broke again for a double break. Nishikori then got the break back as Cilic was making simple errors. Cilic hit a quality lob for se point. What a rally to win to win the set 6-3.

Cilic then keeps control as he serves for the first game of the set. Nishikori then won the second game one which had a lot of rallies. Cilic then wins a 234 shot rally to break in the fourth game of the third set. Cilic then played a great point putting Nishikori each way before winning the game and leading 4-1. Nishikori then had a treble break point and had his far short of luck. Again he saves the game byhitting a quality return type shot and leads by 5 games to 2. Nishikori forces Cilic to serve for the match. Nishikori aims for the line and misses so Cilic has 3 match points. Unbelievably he hits a double fault. Cilic wins a short rally to win the point.

08-09-14 us open women's final

WOMEN'S FINAL
SERENA OFFICIALLY BECOMES A LEGEND

Serena Williams Vs Caroline Wozniacki. Caroline Wozniacki hit her first ace and her first winner in the 4th game but it was all for nothing as Serena got the break. Wozniacki broke in this strange first set where in the first 5 games there were 4 breaks. After all of that Serena lead by 4 games to 2. Serena is then able to hold to take control of the set. Wozniacki then gets one back in an amazing game of tennis  which even though the sweet is virtually over this should give her confidence as to win it she had to win a 20 shot rally. Serena then broke that deserved to win any set but this game did not look over as Serena won the first set 6-3.

Serena showed her quality by breaking in the first game of the second set with some amazing points during this game. She then hit what in my eyes was the perfect point taking Wozniacki  from one side of the court to the other with Serena generally being in the middle what I would call the perfect point. Wozniacki was not giving up in this match and gave a few points of her own to make it 4-3 but she was still a break down. Serena then hit another perfect point pilling Wozniacki ever witch way and this was a quality performance from Serena as she made Wozniacki run from one side of the court to the other. Serena got a break in the final game where the final point was won because of a long shot from Wozniacki.

Serena now goes into the legends of the game after winning 18 majors. One of her most successful majors is the US Open where she has won it 6 times. On major wins she goes joint second with Chris Evert and Martina Nabritlova and is 4 behind Steffi Graf

CILIC OUTCLASSES SIXTH SEED BERDICH

Cilic broke in the first game of the first set and he was able to also gain control with another break in the fifth. Berdich showed his fighting quality’s by breaking back in the sixth. Cilic then breaks in the final game to give himself a flattering shoreline after breaking again in the final game. Cilic gets the first set 6-2.
In the second Cilic also gets the early break and wins the second quite easily by 6 games to 4. Berdich then breaks very early in the third to lead 2-0 and have his first break in the match. Berdich then goes a little bit nuts against the referee which to me made it seem like he was beaten. Cilic then breaks back in the 7th game and the set goes into a tie break which Cilic wins 7-4
FEDERRER PULLS OFF AMAZING PREFORMANCE

Monfils hit a quality point that said to me that there is a game on here as early as at 2-2 but when Monfils broke and hit his first ace to make it 4-2 you thought that Federer was not going to be there. Monfils held to win the set by 6 games to 4.
In the second Monfils broke in the first game of the second set but seemed to have problems with an injury to hold on to a 2-0 lead. Monfils was able to hold onto his throw and win the set 6-3.
Federer then broke in the first game of the third set the first time that he had broken in the match. It was not enough to take control of the set as Mionfils broke back in the fourth.

Federer hit an incredible point into the centre of the court from an angle and got Monfils where he wanted him as he broke to win the set 6-4 and more importantly remained in the tie.
Federer then breaks in the second game. Monfils breaks straight back. Federer is the 2 match points down at 5-4 he manages to win and bring the game to 5-5. Monfils has back to back double faults to lose the 4th set 7-5. Federer showed then at his age he has the mental focus to win this match.
As the fifth set comes Federer seems to have complete control of it and double breaks to make the score 5-12 and wins the set 6-2.
With someone at his age being able to do these both physically and mentally makes me wonder can he do it again.

MURRAY IS NOT THERE JUST YET

Andy Murray broke in the first game of the first set against Novac Djockovic. Djockovic broke back an amazing game that lasted 7 minutes and then broke after to lead 4-1. Andy Murray then broke in the 7th game to put the tie on serve after breaking back to make it 4-3.  The game went to a tie break. Djockovic took complete control of the set and won 7-1. Djockovic broke in the third game of the second set.
Murray broke back straight away with an incredible shot. Novac Djockovic came back with an incredible point to win the break back in the third but this does not look over. It took Andy Murray 3 chances to break Djockovic and be on level terms at 4-4. The game went into a tie break from the point I am watching I felt this should go on and Murray win the tie breaqk because he is doing so well.  Andy Murray did get the set winning 7-1 in a reverse of the first set tie break.
Djockovic then broke in the fourth game. One of the best games I have seen Djocovic wins on serve with incredible points and Murray could have broken as well with quality points and shots. Murray seemed to give up at the end of the set losing the final game rather than Djockovic winning it.  The set went until the 12th game when it seemed like there was something wrong with Andy Murray physically as he did not seem to be playing the way he had played during the earlier parts of the math but did seem to as for a doctor at certain parts of the set but no one seemed to come.

NISHIKORI BECOMES FIRST JAPANESE PLAYER TO REACH SEMIS

In the other big match in the men’s draw Stan Wawrinka took control of the first set to win 6-3 but it was a bit of a surprise for Nishkori when he won the second set on a tie break9-7. The third also went to a tie break. Kei Nishikori wins an amazingly odd tie break where 6 points in a row went against the throw. The fourth set also went to a tie break. In the final set every game went with serve until It seemed like stan  Wawrenka had given up as he made a double fault and made a horrible error and Nishkori became the first Japanese player to reach a semi-final in the open error

FEDERRER SHOWS HE STILL HAS CLASS

Roger Federrer v Roberto Bauista Agut. This was an interesting start as Bautista Agut managed to win his first game but Federer broke in third to give him a sense of control of the match. During this there was a very strange call given for Federer but was within the rules. It was something to do with an imaginary pip when serving. Roger Federer showed his class with an increasable point to get a double break to lead by 4 games to 1 but Bautista Agut did get a break back to only be one break behind. Roger Federer hit 2 aces to win the set by 6 games to 4.In the second set we began to see what Federer is really like as he won the second 6-3 on a double break. At the start Bautista  Agut took a early hold of serve but when Federer broke  you so sort of knew and when he took the double break to win by 6 games to 3 it did look like he could go back to his heights again. Federer then broke at the start of third set to take complete control as he lead 3-1.A bad shot from Bautista  Agut left Federer with a 6-2 win in the third and a spot in the quarter final.

MONFIS PULLS OFF A SHOCK

Gail Monfils v Dimitrov No one dropped serve until Demitrov made some silly errors to lose the 11th game and Monfis did pick up the game he needed to get the set and win it 7-5. Dimitrov double faulted to give Monfis a break in the fifth. Monfis hits a long shot to give Dimitrov a break to make the set level but what a rally. As the second set went to a tie break you can never be sure. Dimitrov did have control at 2-0 and 4-2 and Monfis was very lucky for his ball to drop in to make it 4-4 but Dimitrov did get the edge again to lead by 6 points to 4. Monfis got ahead for the first time after a long shot from Dimitrov. It was a long shot from Dimitrov that won Monfis the set 8-6.  The third set went on serve until the final game the 12th when a double fault was Dimitrov undoing. This type of match will help Monfils as he goes into the quarter finals.

WOZNIAKI ON A DIFFERENT PLANET

Caroline Wozniacki vs Sara Errani.   Wozniacki broke early in the first set but there was some incredible tennis played in the first 2 games. She then went on to break again and have complete control of this first set. She plays a quality point to win the set by 6 games to 0 but you would have thought from the start of this set Errani would get something from it but no. Errani broke in the first game in the third set. Wozniack broke straight back and took another break to take control of this match as a whole. Wozniack then gets into a beautiful rally forcing Errani to run lobbing her bushing her wide to win the next and get a double break in front. The case of the paper bag did not distract her as she won the second and reaches the semis by 6 games to 1. Wozniack played this match very well and should learn a lot from it.

MURRAY SHOWS HE STILL HAS CLASS

Even though the score red 2-2 Tsonga gained his first point on the Andy Murray serve in the third game but that was a comfortable game also for Murray. Murray seems to be going for higher shots that ask is there something going on with his shoulder. At 6-5 every game was going to serve and at 15-0 to Tsonga it looked like that was the way it was going to be then Murray showed his class getting to 15-40. He lost the next point but by pulling Tsonga on to the right far side he was able to hit the ball to the left and win the set. Jo Wilfred Tsonga broke in the third which was a surprise as Murray looked good. Murray then held his throw which kept him in the set.  Murray broke back in the 8th game to make it even again. Murray then took the second set by winning the 12th game against serve. Tsonga broke early in the third set to give himself some form of control of the third. Andy Murray saved 2 double break point to win the third game and keep this set alive.   The next game was a horrible one for Tsonga as Murray broke to love to make it 2-2. The tenth match it did not seem like Tsonga was really there and it looked like Murray had control of the game at least in Tsongas head as it did look like “his goose was cooked” as Murray boke to 15.The next round is important to see where Murray really is at.
DJOCKOVIC IS STILL BEST

Murray reward for winning his last 16 match is a quarter final against Novac Djockovic after he won in straight sets against Kohlscreiber. On his side of the draw you also have Sam Wawrinka who beat Robredo in 4 sets. Nishkori is also a quarter finalists after beating Ranoc the higher seed in 5 sets.

SERENA PROVES AGE IS JUST A NUMBER

Serena Williams’s v Kanepi Serena broke in the 8th game of the set as she has not lost a point on first serve until the 9th game. Kanepi showed us what she can do with an amazing shot across court and hits a near perfect shot to the baseline. It is all for nothing as Serena wins the set 6-3.  Williams broke early in the fourth set to lead by 4 games to 2. Williams then got the 6th game to make almost certain of her spot in the next round. Serena did seem to suffer from getting over the line disease as Kanepi managed to pull a game back with Serena only getting 1 point. In the next game however Serena seemed to be back to herself as she won against the throw to win the game 6-3. She does look very good for the quarter final.

LOWER SEEDED PLAYER  WILL REACH SEMIS

Penetta from Italy won in straight sets against Delaqua from Argentena. Victoria Azerenca showed that she is still one of the best after beating unseeded Kunic in 3 sets but is this as far as she can go Makarova from Russia beat Eugene Bouchard in straight sets but both sets were close and it could have went either way. The highest seeded yesterday to reach the quarter finals except for Serena Williams was  Penetta from Italy who was seeded 11 so there will be a bit of a surprise package in the semis.

ROGER GETS BETTER AND BETTER

Roger Federer did not look himself at the start of this match as Granollers got into a 3-0 lead. He was able to keep this lead until the end of the set but Roger Federer. Federer did break back to make it 5-4 but Granollers broke to love to win this first set. The second set was just pure class from Federer as he took the couple of breaks that he needed to win by 6 games to 1. In the third he took control of it also with a couple of break to lead by 5 games to 1. Federer showed his class to win the set6-1.Federrer broke early in the fourth to lead by 4 games to 0 and Federer was playing for the match as he lead 5-1Federrer showed his class in the end to win and go through to the next round   With this match behind him you do not know what Federer can do but there was not much learning beyond the first set which he lost.  Federer would need to take a look at that.
MENTAL MEN

In other results Berdich won in straight sets against Gabashvili from Russia. There was  a surprise as Thiem of Austia beat Lopex of Spain. Cilic from Crotia beat Anderson of South Africa in 4. Maria Sharapova then broke in the third and you would think that this would be her set. It was her set but Sharapova did not make it easy for herself. As the final game of the set went on the match is now even. Wosniaki hit an incredible shot to take the break in the third set and lead 3-1.  Wosniki broke to win the set and match by 6 games to 2

MENS

Scotsman Andy Murray looks a lot better than he did on Monday as he broke in the 8th game of the first set. German Bachinger was giving away some easy points to Andy Murray which gave him the confidence to go on. Murray hit a sweet return shot to give him 2 set points to win the set which he took with a quality shot. Murray then broke in the first game of the second set to give him comfort.  Bachinger stole a game of Andy Murray as Murray was 30 love up and Bachinger hit 4 shots in a row to win it.  Andy Murray managed to win the second set and at this stage he looked a lot better than the first round. Andy Murray gave away 3 break points at 4-3. Andy Murray then had a brilliant game to win the match as it brought the tie from 4-4 to 6-4 winning all four points. .  Bachinger did deserve a set in this match but Andy showed how clinical he is.

Novac Djockovic took an early break in the first set to lead by 4-1against Mathieu and after doing that taking another break to lead 5-1and as he took the set it looked like he could not lose this match. Djockovic did take a break in the 6th game but this set was definitely a lot tighter. Djockovic did take the second but must have felt Mathieu getting better. The third seemed to be Djockovic at his best as he took 2 breaks of serve to lead 4-0 and took the fifth to love and this form looks like there might be a champion here. Djockovic looked very impressive in that final shot to win 6-0

American John Isner won in straight sets against Struff of Germany. Frenchman Jo Wilfred Tsonga also got a straight sets win against Nedovyesov. American Sam Query beat Spaniard Garcia Lopez the seed in straight sets

WOMENS

Serena Williams showed why she is the best in the world after beating Viana King by 6 games to 1. Serena showed her class in the second set to win 6-0 but the conditions were very windy.

Euginie Bouchard took an early break against Cirstea in her second round match. In the final game of the set it did seem that Cirstea had given up a little bit as it seemed like she let Bouchard win it to make the score 6-2. . The second set was much closer as at 4-4 it seemed like Bouchard was in a battle. Bouchard then lost control of the match as she lost a break and Cistea was serving for the set. Bouchard did break back and force a tie break. Cistea wins the tie break by 7 points to 4.Bouchard got an early break in the third set to make it 3-1. Cistrea broke straight back to make the score 3-3. Bouchard then broke again to give herself a chance to win this match but the way they are breaking you can’t be certain. Cistea then Broke to make this result look more like it should Cistea hit the ball long and as every ball was on serve the tie was won by Bouchard

Petra Kitova from the Czech Republic won in straight sets against Cetkovska also from the Czech Republic in straight sets. Victoria Azerenka from Bulgaria won in straight sets against Mc Hale from the USA.

DIMITROV SHOWS WHAT HE CAN DO

Dimitrov broke in the 4th game to make the score 3-1. Dimitrov then broke again in the final game of the set to make the score 6-2 and the score looked harder on Harrison. Harrison then broke Dimitrov in the 5th game. Dimitrov then broke back in the tenth game. The match went to a tie break. Dimitrov showed his class in winning the tie break but the game was level until Dimitrov got 2 quick breaks at the end of the tie break to win it 7-4.  Dimatrov broke early in the third to gain control of the set. And after a break in the 5th it looked like Harrison had no hope. Dimitrov did not waste time getting over the line.

WAWRENKA SHOULD HAVE LOST
Wawrenka broke in the 7th game to get the first set in a very tight match to start with. Wawrenka broke early in the second set winning the first game which gave him a lot of confidence. Wawrenka showed his class to win the set 6-4 but this match could have easily been 1-1 in sets. Beleuev got the chance to win his first break point in the third set to lead 2-1 and broke again to be in a sence of dreamland but Wawrenka did get one break back to bring it to 5-3but he did get the set in the end. The 4th set went to a tie break and did not look like the player that he was as he lost by 7 points to 1.

SHARAPOVA SHOWS WHY SHE IS TOP OF THE WORLD
Maria Sharapova was in a bit of trouble as Dulgheru broke in the 7th game and then went on to win the set 6-4 hitting a quality shot to win it. Maria Sharapova  won the game winning one of the best points that I have seen in a long time and both her and Dulgheru were incredible to work the angles for.  Sharapova did break in the 8th and left herself with a chance to win the set as she went 5-3 up. Sharapova did show her class in the final game but Dulgheru did not seem there like there was something wrong. Sharapova broke. In the first game of the third to gain control. Sharapova broke a second time to make her have control. Sharapova kept her nerve to get the win 6-2.

VENUS CAN LEARN FROM MISTAKES
Venus Williams showed why she is still a quality player. In the first set against Bassinszly but in the first couple of games of the match it was even before Williams took control of the match winning the next 5 games to win 6-1. In the second it was much closer and the set went to 4-4 before Venus got the break she needed to win by 6 games to 4. Venus is a fans favourite but I am not that sure how far she will go in the tournament.
RADWANSKA IS BEST OF THE REST

Anna Radvanska was knocked out 2-0 by Peng of china. Jankovic from Serbia beat Pironkova 2-0 all matches being in the second round

Roger Federer broke very late against Matosevic to lead 5-3 and showed his class to make the score 6-3. Federer broke in the 7th games of the second set but with some of the amazing shots he hit you would think he could go back to being one of the best in the world incredible shots from Roger. He was able to win the second set by 6 games to 4 and did look like a class act. Federer could have lost a break in the third but got one in the 7th game of the set. Matosevic did break back straight away in the 8th game. The third set went to a tie break Roger Federer showed his class at the end to win the final 3 points and go through to the second round.

Spaniard David Ferrer the number 4 seed won his game in four sets 6-1, 6-2, 2-6 6-2 against Dzumhur from Bulgaria. While John Isner beat fellow American Giron in straight sets. Richard Gasguet of France beat Istomin from Uzbekistan in 3 very close sets

Serena Williams played Taylor Townsend in this all USA clash. Serena broke early to make the score 2-1 It did seem like there were things wrong with Townsend in the final game as Serena took it against the serve to take the first set. Serena broke very early to lead the second set 2-0. Serena showed why she was a champion after winning another break and leading 5-1. Townsend had a glorious chance to save herself but missed the shot completely and with match point Serena excited.

In the first round Sorana Cirstea from Romania played Brit Heather Watson. Watson got herself off to a good start winning her first service game. In the 6th Watson gave Cirstea a good go but this was not the best of sets for her losing 6-1. Heather Watson showed her class in the second set by breaking back to make the score 1-1 but that seemed to be all it was. As Cirstea broke back a game later. Which gave her the chance to take control of the match and not lose another game.

Sam Stouser beat American Davis in 2 sets Petra Kitova beat Mledenovic from France as cantered her way to the second round. Elena Bouchard from Canada beat Govertsova from Bulgaria. The shock of the tournament and something I feel I have to mention is 15 year old Bellis from the USA beating Ciblkova from Slovakia no 12 seed in 3 sets.

MALE

Andy Murray played Tony Hasse in this first round tie of the US open. In the first time Hasse took a bit of time to get used to the game as Andy Murray lead by 4 games to Love but if he did not get the start of the match he could have won this set as Murray won it by 6 games to 3. In the second set Murray was 3-1 down and did not look like he had the form but Murray did force to a tie break. Murray was down in the tie break but brought it back to 6-6 and then got the mini break to win the second set 8-6.
Murray was not himself in the third as he got an early game but Hasse got 5 games in a row to win the set and it looked like we were watching an injured Murray. In the final set Hass was 2-0, 4-2 and 5-3 up and it did not look good. Andy did win the next 4 games to ensure a spot in the second round winning 7-5 and Andy does not look right for the tournament.

Novac Djockovic showed his class in the first set winning 6-1 but losing a game on his own serve. It did look like Schwartman was getting better and better during the match as the second set was won 6-2 but Schwatman could have won the third going down by 6 games to 4. Djockovic looks ready for this US open and we will see how far he goes.

Other results include 3 sets to 1 win for Jo Wilfred Tsonga over Monaco of Argentina Wawrinka beating Vesley by 3 sets to 0 but needing 2 tie breaks to win. Milos Raonic from Canada defeated Daniel from Japan in straight sets to secure a second round place.

Maria Sharapova showed why she is one of the best after defeating Maria Kirlenko also from Russia.  She cruised through the second set quitter comfortably winning it by 6 games to 0. But the first set was not as comfortable as it was 4-4 in games before Maria Sharapova got the break which set her up in the next round of the championship.
