WOMENS
Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) beat K
Bertens (Ned)
6-1, 6-0
Petra Kvitova found it very easy in her first round match.
We will see as time goes on whether a result like this could help her
confidence but I feel that she has not learned enough in this match to help
her.
Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) beat S Zheng (China)
7-5, 6-0
A tricky first set but an easy second one to me this shows
her improvement during the match which I like very much as it shows there is
room for improvement.
J Cepelova ( Slovakia)
beat Simona Halep (Romania)
5-7, 6-4, 6-3
This is the shock result of the first round by a distance
but how far can someone go on a big win. It normally comes to bite them in the
next round and that is what I fear
Eugenie Bouchard (Canada) beat Y Duan ( China)
7-6, 6-4
I like Eugenie Bouchard and I would like to see someone
young win the title but to do that she must learn as much as she can from every
win.
MENS
Roger Federer (switzerland)
beat D Dzumhur (Bih)
6-1, 6-3, 6-3
Federer is learning how to play the season so that it suits
him and I think that this is helping him as he breezed through the first round.
Andy Murray (GB) beat M Kukushkin (Kazakhstan)
6-4, 7-6, 6-4
Andy Murray has got the best of both worlds from this match
in both a tight match and a 3 set win.
Rafa Nadal (Spain) beat T bellucci (Romania)
6-4, 6-2, 6-4
Rafa is trying to get back to his best form but I don’t know
whether he can or not. This type of thing does happen in rare occasions but I
want him back on top but he must find his form and I am not sure what
confidence a match like this can give him
Tomas Berdych (Czech republic) beat Jeremy Chardy (France)
6-2, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6
Berdych dropped a set in this first round match that is not
helpful at all but he is one of the best tennis players in the world but seems
out of sorts
Joe Wilfred Tsonga (France) beat G Muller( Luxenberg)
7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2
Tsonga looks OK in this first round but OK will not get him
as far as he needs to go in this Wimbledon championship. He has to get better
as the tournament progresses and the added week should have helped players like
him and Berdych more so than the big guns like Federer, Nadal and Murray
