WOMENS SINGLES
Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic beat Gibbs from the Us
in 2 sets and looks like one to watch out for in the US open but there is
little that can be said at this stage about form.
Sara Errani needed 3 sets and a set to wake up as in the
first set it seemed like she was completely asleep. In the second she took control
and won it by 6 games to 4 and the third 6-3 but Errani has definitely got a
lot to worry about.
Sam Stoser Cruised through to the third round against Russian
Rodina as she only conceded 2 games and looks to be ready for anybody going
forward.
Dain Caroline Wozniacki beat Czech Cetkovska in 3 sets and the final set went all
the way until the final ball was hit and Wo9n the tie break to win the third
set and book a spot in the third
Bulgerian Victoria Azarenka had 2 hard sets against Wickmayer
from Belgiyum she does look like a potential champion at this stage but I have
seen playerws like her go to a point but could not go any further.
German Savine Lisicki had a hard first set against Giorgi
from Italy but it did seem like in the second set Lisicki was able to just pull
away
Romanian Salena Halep beat K Bondarenko in 2 tough sets to
secure a spot in the second round you cannot be sure what a result like this
means in context but as she is such a high seed you would be disappointed if
she did not reach the quarters
German Angelique Kerber had both a hard and an easy set
against Italian Knapp the first set nearly went to a tie break but the second was
over quite quick as a double break won the match.
