WOMENS SINGLES
Czech player Petra Kvitova won 2 hard sets against British Player
Joanna Konte but this is probably the furthest a British player has went in a
long time. It took a long time for Kvitova to break in the first set but when
she did it won her the set. In the second Kvitova had more control as she was
able to break a lot earlier.
Italian tennis player Pennetta beat Sam Stoser in 2 very
hard sets and this is a win that is definitely going to help her world rankings
going forward.
Bulgarian Victotria Azerenka beat unseeded Lepchenko from
the US the first set looked a lot easier for her than the second and she looks
ready for anybody at this stage. There is sometimes little that can be learned
against an unseeded opponent
Romanian Samona Halep beat German Savine Lisicki in 3 sets the first set was an
absolute epic where Laisicki won an epic
tie break by 8 points to 6. The second was won by Halep but it was also very
close. In the third Halep took control to win the third with 2 breaks of serve.
With a match like this under her belt she does look like a potential champion.
