WOMEN'S FIRST ROUND

Here are some of the women  look for in the tennis draw

(1)    Serena Williams (USA) beat Vitalia Diatchenko (Rus) 6-0 2-0 ret

Serena showed that she was on top form before a poor injury knocked Diatchenko out due to injury but this is not a test for Serena as she did not lose a game

 (19) Madison Keys (USA) beat  Klara Koukalova (Cze) 6-2 6-4

One of my favourite girls in tennis Madison keys found it easy in this first round match getting 2 breaks in the first match and one in the second. I feel that a match like this can only help her going forward.

 (12) Belinda Bencic (Swi) beat Sesil Karatantcheva (Bul) 6-1 6-2

Bencic is a name that I have not heard of when it comes to women’s tennis but an easy win here might get here more in the public eye

 (25) Eugenie Bouchard (Can) beat Alison Riske (USA) 6-4 6-3

This was defiantly in my opinion one to watch out for when it came to tennis in the near future but she does have a very low ranking to back this up. In my opinion a match like this will help her as she only broke once in each set

Coco Vandeweghe (USA) beat (29) Sloane Stephens (USA) 6-4 6-3

Both of these women have a future in world tennis in my opinion but the one that I like to eatch is the unseeded player Slone Stevens so I was disappointed yesterday as she was not able to pick up a set but she did not make it easy for Vandeweghe

 (23) Venus Williams (USA) beat Monica Puig (Pur) 6-4 6-7 (7-9) 6-3

The elder of the Williams sisters found it difficult in this first round tie. This does make me question her fitness going further in the competition but a match like this could only help someone younger.  I want her to go far but would be shocked if she died

Lauren Davis (USA) beat Heather Watson (Gbr) 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-0)

One of the Brittish girls Heather Watson is gone out of this competition as she lost a very hard match in the first round. It seemed like the American Davis blew her away in the second set

Dominika Cibulkova (Svk) beat (7) Ana Ivanovic (Ser) 6-3 3-6 6-3

This is definitely the first big shock of the us open this year as Cibulkova beat Ivanovic in 3 sets. There are normally a few shocks in the early rounds but this is definitely a big one. I do not think Cibulkova will be able to play wellk in the second round because of the attention that will surround her now.

 (15) Agnieszka Radwanska (Pol) beat Katerina Siniakova (Cze) 6-2 6-3

Radwanska is also a player that I like and she has also had a very easy first round match. I think she will be one to watch out for definitely as the tournament goes on.

 (13) Ekaterina Makarova (Rus) bt Teliana Pereira (Bra) 6-3 6-3

Makarova is someone that I have heard off but I do not think that she is that well known outside of her country but this is the type of win that you will need going into the second round it was tough but comfortable as she won by 2 sets to 0.
